THE OTAGO HUNT
The meet took place at Signal Hill on Saturday, a large number of spectators being present, • including the Mayor and Major-general Godley. The arrangements were, made by Messrs Gillespie and Parquharson. On arrival at the starting point the followers had to wait some time before they could/break away, on account of the Ground Committee altering the route. The weather was fine, but a fog came over tho hills which prevented the spectators from seeing the finish. .The hounds broke away, but were quickly brought back by the whip. At -3.50, the trail being laid, a start was made, Mr Mowat, as 'captain, taking the lead, followed by several members until reaching the top of the hill. A fairly large, gathering took advantage of the shrub fences. At different times the hounds got off the trail, but were soon put on to the right track. ! At intervals live hares were roused from their resting-places, but no damage was done on acount of the Cover. The last four Jumps were all that could be desired, there being no mishaps. Altogether there were about 20 jumps to clear, and tho country was very , rough. All seemed to enjoy themselves, and the thafiks of the club are due to the propertv-ownevs. Refreshments were supplied by Messrs Gillespie and Farquharson, and Mr H. W. Allen, oil behalf of the Hunt Club, thanked the ladies and gentlemen who so kindly put the ground at their disposal, and mentioned that it. was most unfortunate ''the mist coming over the hills had prevented the visitors seeing the run. The propertyowners suitably replied. The hounds go to Milton, and on their return visit Outram. The club will have a run to Wakari during race week. •<
