SOUTH AFRICA
WAR AGAINST SOCIETY. THE SOCIALISTS’ PROGRAMME. (London' Times ’ and Sydney ‘ Sun ’ Services.) PRETORIA, April 26. The Socialists have circularised the trade unions of Cape Colony proposing retaliatory action should the Union Government pass their contemplated reactionary legislation. The scheme includes organised withdrawals from the defence forces, a boycott of South African goods, withdrawals from the savings hanks, and a general strike. The ‘Cape Argus’ belittles the movement, but warns Parliament to avoid legislation antagonistic to trade unionism, as that would bo playing into the hands of the revolutionary elements.
