(Received November 19, at 1.10 p.m.) Captain Backland, an American Arctic navigator, thinks that Captain Steffannson is not lost, but merely pent in the ice while tlie expedition is camping on the floes. Steffannson had stated t]K}& he expected to do this if he were caught in the ice. He did not anticipate, any danger.
