AUCKLAND. j I Arthur Stanley England, charged with having set fire to'tho Houhora Public Hall, kvas found not guilty by the jury without their leaving the box. CHRISTCHURCH. William Philip Edgar was to-day sentenced to six month's imprisonment for receiving stolen property. William Charles Merritt and Sydney William Arthur pleaded guilty to stealing a travelling bag and a quantity of jewellery, the property of S. Din, at Lake Coleridge. Mr Justice Denniston said the offence was the result of a drunken spree, and he would admit the *cused to probation for 12 months, each ot tho accused to pay Din £4O. The charge of murder against Biddle will bo heard to-morrow.
