BAY TOWN BOARD

The monthly meeting of the Bay Town Board, held last evening, was attended by Messrs E. F. Duthie (chairman), W. D. M’Oarthy, J. B. Sbacklock, A. Lee Smith, sen., J. Whyte, and B. J. Barrett. —Correspondence.— Tho Secretary of the Dunedin Expansion league wrote drawing attention 'o the omission of the vital statistics for the Bay Town district from tho figures for Dunedin and suburbs.—lt was decided to forward returns in future. The Town Clerk, St. Kilda, wrote pointing out that the culvert in Anderson Bay road was not running freely, and consequently during the late heavy rains the water backed up on part of Musselburgh, and also on part of Tainui, in the St. Kilda Borough.—The clerk was instructed to reply that the formation of the new road. in Tainui had been more responsible for the flood at St. Kilda. A letter was received from tho secretary of the Portobello 'Road Board stating that he had been instructed to arrange a conference of representatives of the Bay Town Board and the City Council to consider the advisability of repairing or reconstructing the Anderson Bay bridge. Mr L. 0. Beal was of opinion that satisfactory repairs could be carried out at a reasonable cost.—Tho chairman and Mr Shacklock were appointed to represent the board at the conference.

A letter was received from the Undersecretary of the Department of Public Works enclosing copy of a. warrant authorising the Portobello Road Board to construct the Anderson Bay bridge and apportion the cost as followsPortobello Road Board 50 per cent., Dunedin City Council 40 per cent., Bay Town Board 10 per cent. —Received.

Air Wimpenny wrote applying for a permit to erect a residence and motor-house having a frontage to Wilson's avenue. He also drew the board’s attention to the open drain in front of his property.—The permit was granted, and it was decided that the board supply the pipes, Mr Wimpenny to fill in the drain.

Messrs W. E. M’Adam, R. Lee, and E. He Iyer wrote drawing attention to tho bad state of the drain that flowed from Airs Hewitt’s residence.—The matter was referred to Alcssrs Whyte and Shacklock for a report.

A letter signed by 12 residents of Tainui asked that the open drain in Tainui road be put into such order as would obviate the nuisance which arose every summer through the water from the sewerage and residences being unable to run freely away —The clerk was instructed to reply staling that the board were not responsible in. the matter of drainage, but they would do their best to keep the channel clear. - —General.— The Ranger reported that nine head of cattle had been impounded during the month.
