ARBITRATION ACT AMENDMENT
PROTESTING TRADE UNIONS

rr . . AUCKLAND, October 7. . the Arbitration Act Amendment Bill is meeting with widespread opposition trom the trade unions of Auckland, the Waterside Workers’ Union have written to Mr Myers, M.P., asking him, on behalf of 1,100 members of that body, to convey to Parliament their conviction that the Bill is tho most harsh and reactionary measure devised m any civilised country outside Russia lor many years, and expressing the opinion that this is an attempt to revert to the coercive methods in against workers in medieval times and under the Roman Empire. The measure, they allege, emanated from tho organised employers of this country and their officials. The opinion is expressed that the complete humiliation of organised Labor in New Zealand, aimed a t’ by the promoters of this iniquity, 1 d ?f eate <l practice, and that the Bill, if passed, must inevitably result in chaos.
