Mr G. IT. Wilson, of the head office staff of the Standard Insurance Company, has been appointed manager for Invercargill and Southland.

Three of Otago s old idenrities died recently -Mrs W. R. Fawcett (at Alexandra), who arrived bv the StrithlKdsaxe in 1857; Mr William Bevict; Lit Mornington) a well-known Strath Tareri settler; and Mr John Wintou (at J/eith street), who arrived in Dunedin bv the Philip Laing in 1048. The latter was a member of the Salvation Army, a member of the Ravcnsbonrne Lodge" of Druids, and for many yeans occupied a. seat on West Harbor Borough Council. At a special meeting of the Orphans’ Club Bro J. A. Haggitt (tho club’s pianist and conductor) and Bro. Jas. Brown, who are about to leave Dunedin for the Homeland were presented with mementoes by their fellow members. Bro. J. Leech was the recipient of a marriage gift.

The Victoria College' (Wellington) Council last night made the following appointments Mr G. G. Watson to be assistant to Professor Garrow (Law), Mies L. E. Levi assistant to Professor Hunter (Mental Science), Mr W. A. Stewart assistant to Professor Laby (Physics). Professor F. D. Brown (Chemistry and Physics) and Professor A. P, W. Thomas (biology and geology) have handed in their resignations to the Auckland University College Council. Both professors have been connected with the college for over 30 years. At the Union Company’s Port Chalmers works at noon today the electrical staff presented Mr D. R. W. Ovenden, leading electrician, with a clock as a mark of esteem and good wishes on tie eve of his marriage. Mr H. D. Acland. president of the Canterbury branch of the Reform League, has consented to contest the Avon seat at the next election in the Government interest. Mr J. Campbell, for many years designer for the Mbsgiel Woollen Company, has retired from that position, and left for an extended tour of America and England. He is succeeded by Mr T. Hiddlestone, formerly of the Oamaru 'Woollen Works, and who has just returned from an inspection of the mills of the Old Land. A private cable from Sydney states that Mr R. W. Richards (formerly town clerk of Dunedin) was yesterday elected State president of the Local Government Engineers’ Association.
