DEATH OF SIR R. NICHOLSON
THE MAN WHO SURVEYED DUNEDIN. Press Association—By TelegTaph—Copyright. LONDON. March 18. The death of Sir Richard Nicholson is announced, aged 85 years. [Sir Richard Nicholson, who was horn at Hertfordshire in 1828, joined tho surveying istaff of the New Zealand Company in and assisted in laying out the town of Wanganui. He was, also the surveyor who laid out the town'and country sections of Dunedin. On returning to England, in 1851., he became a solicitor, and wa.3 charged-with the claim of the late Earl of Shrewsbury and Talbot to the Earldom of Shrewsbury and the estates annexed to the title, which was established in 1869. He was created a knight in 1886.]
