HURRICANE AT SSVA
Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. SUVA. March 18. Yesterday the barometric readings indicated climatic disturbances, and this morning at 5 o'clock the gla«s fell steadily. At 7 o'clock the Government signal pins boomed a warning of an approaching hurricane, and at 9 o'clock a pale was blowing with full force, .finally dying away at 11 o'clock. The soap works were totally destroyed, and the Union Steam Ship Company's unfinished hotel was damaged to the extent of £SOO. The other local damage is light. Communication with the outer centres is interrupted. In the Rewa Valley the sugar cane • and banana croi* were devastated for miles, but Labasa and Taviuni are safe. The Tofua rode the gale in the harbor, and the Marania, after having sheltered, reachcdDOrt eafejy* . .>
