It was the worst blizzard experienced for 20 years. NEW YORK, December 31. At Milwaukee an avalanche killed a number of employees in the Cascade Mountains. • ■ A rotary snow plough, exploded on the Great Northern railway, killing five men. The telegraphs and telephones are idle, and much damage has been done to small shipping. The tug Margaret struck a submerged wreck on the New Jersey coast. The captain reached the beach while the vessel was sinking. She was stranded on a sand bar. During a terrific gale attempts were made to launch a lifeboat, which was overturned, and one sailor drowned. The litesavers rescued 10 others. When the lifeboat was overturned the spectators rushed into "the surf and dragged all the people ashore.
