_ At about 3.40 yesterday afternoon the fire brigade received a call to Messrs Booth, Mac Donald, and Co.'s engineerinc works at Sydenham, Christchurch. The fire was confined to the moulding and pattern shops, which formed part of the old buildings. The fire at one time looked like y to involve the greater part of the works, but the brigade were very promptly, at work, and the outbreak was localised. His wife states that as she was going to bed, an hour before sh'e was awakened, she had placed some- of the children's clothes on a cano chair before the fire in the room where the outbreak was first noticed. Only a few articles of furniture were saved from the building. The furniture and contents were insured in the Victoria Office for £l5O, and the house in the National Office for £350.
