The first conference and demonstration of the Southern Districts Fire Brigades Association will be held at Alexandra on December 23 and 30. The Dunedin Brigade and committee have been working hard for weeks past to make the function a success. The sum of £SO is to be given in prize-money, and a cup is to be awarded to the team winning the championship.; Fifteen brigades have notified the secretary that they will be competing. The arrangements at Alexandra are:—Conference, Saturday night; and church parade, Sunday morning. In the afternoon the visitors will be the guests of tha Alexandra Brigade. On Monday the de» monstration will start at 9 a.m., and fivo events are to be decided—five men hosa and ladder, five men coiled hose, threa men hose, hydrant, and union, baby rescue by two men, and night alarm by two men. As the U.E.B.A. demonstration is to be held in Wanganui.in February, the brigades will obtain a good idea of how they are shaping at different events.
