The fusing of a wire in a test box at the General Post Office, St. Martins-le-Grand, paralysed thousands of other boxes, causing a loss of power that interrupted communications both_ inland and on the Continent. Temporary emergency measures prevented the complete isolation of London, but it is feared it will be a week before the normal service is restored.
