(Received August 26, at 9 a.m.) Wheat : Australian cargoes arc firmer. One sold at 39s 9d, which is also asked for Victorian April and May shipment, and 40s_ for .South Australian' April shipment. Thirty-seven shilings and .sixpence was paid for a parcel of Now Zealand longberried afloat. Liverpool futures, October 91gd, December tember 93§ and 94i cents, December 93 and 93J cents. The quantity of wheat and flour afloat ! for the United Kingdom is 2,530,000 quar- | tsrs, and for the Continent 1,635,000 quarI ters. The Atlantic shipments were 338X00 | quarters, and tho Pacific nil. The totals are: Europe, 1,125,000 quarters: Arson- j tine, 32.000 quarters; Russia, 235,000 quarters; Danubian provinces, 220.0C0 quarters: India, 125.000 quarters; aand Australasia. 115.000 quarters. Market firm at last quotations—viz. :_ Light weights—Canterbiu v, 4|d ; Ncrth Island. 4{d~; heavy weight's. s|d. Lamb. —Market slightly weaker, with less demand. The weather continues unfavorable. A small supply of Scotch lambs has been marketed at art average price of 6d. Canterbury—light weights sgd, heavy weights s^d; other than Canterbury, s|d for light weight and 4Jd to 5d for heavies. Heavy weight is difficult to sell. Beef.—Market quiet, with a good demand for hinds. New Zealand hinds, s£d to 4d ; fores (slow). S^d. Butter.—-Maffcef quiet hut steady. Danish, 128s; Australian, Ills; Siberian, 107.5. Cheese.—Market steady, with moderate demand. Prices firm at about quotations aheady given. N.Z. white and colored. 65s to 665: Canadian—white 64s 6d, «)lored 65s 6d. Hemp.—Market firm, but little doing. Spot: New Zealand good fair grade £27 ss, fair £26. fair current Manila £26 10s. GRAIN AND PRODUCE. Messrs Dalgoty and Co. report as follows:—Wo held our weekly auction sale of grain and produce at our stores to-day, when prices ruled as under: — Oats.—Tho market remains quiet; only bright heavy samples of sound oats are being; inquired for. These are not offering as freely as they wore. Tho demand is limited, and prices remain unchanged. There is still a large quantity of inferior oats offering, which arc difficult to place. Prime milliiiK, 2s to 2s Id; good to best feed. Is l()d to Is lid; medium to good, Is Sd to Is Old; unsound and inferior from Is 6d per bushel (sacks extra).

Wheat.—Tim volume of business passing in milling wheat is not extensive. Very few samples are under offer, the bulk of the wheat coming to hand being fowl wheat. Any linos of choice milling arc readily placed at quotations. • Fowl wheat is offering freely at values a shade below late quotations. Wo quote:—Prime milium, 3s 8d to 3s Did ; medium milling, 3s (id to ,'?s 7d; best whole fowl wheat, 3s 3d to 3s -Id; medium to pood, 3s Id to 3s 2d; inferior and damaged. L's 9d to 3s per bushel (sacks extra). Potatoes.—Prime quality meets with a good demand. Shippers are still operating freely in completion of Australian business. Very few consignments are coming to hand in really first-class condition. In most cases consignments are more or less out of order, and require picking before bagging. Linos of well-picked seed are also in good demand. Wo quote:— Choice tables, .£B, with a firming tendency; medium to good, £7 to £7 l()s; freshly-picked seed Up-to-Datos, £•"> to £6 per ton (sacks in)._ Chaff.—Heavy supplies have come to hand during the past week, and values have receded ."is a ton. Buyers will only operate for prime quality. Inferior, light, and discolored chaff is neglected and difficult to quit. Oats.—There is fair export demand for A and B grade Cartons, which arc not offering freely. Sparrowbills are more plentiful, and if prime are taken by shippers to fill orders. Lower-grade, oats of all sorts are difficult to place at reduced values. We quote: Prime milling, 2s to 2s Id; good to host food, Is 10d to Is lid; inferior to medium, Is 8d to Is 0-id per bushel (sacks extra). Wheat.—Prime samples of velvet and Tuscan have more attention from millers, but linos of indifferent quality are quite out of favor, and only saleable as fowl wheat. Best whole fowl wheat is in good demand, but inferior quality is not readily placed. We quote: Prime milling, is Sd to 3s o]d : medium, 3s 5.Jd to 3s 7d; best whole fowl wheat, 3s 3d to 3s 5d ; medium, 3s to 3s 2d; broken and damaged, 2s 3d to 2s 9d per bushel (sacks extra).

.Potatoes.—The market continues to be moderately supplied, and prime samples have ready sale. Consignments affected by frost or disease are not in request., being unsuitable for export. Seed lines from Southland are moving off more freely. We quote: Best table potatoes, £7 los to £8; medium to good, £7 to £7 10s; inferior, £6 to £G los; seed lines (Southland), £6 to £6 10s; others, £1 10s to £o 10s per ton (bags included). Chaff.—Heavy supplies have come forward during the week, and as there is practically no outlet for shipment values have suffered to some extent: Prime oaten sheaf is tho only class in favor with buyers. Other sorts have little demand, and in most cases have to be taken into stores. We quote: Best oaten sheaf, £2 I/5s to £.3; choice, to £3 2s 6d ; medium to good, £2 7s 6rl to £2 12s 6d; light and "discolored, £2 to £2 5s per ton (bags extra).
