♦ KILLED WHILE TREE-FELLIXG. TAUMAPvUXUI". August 26. David Syme Halliburton. 43 years, a. settler on a section inland from Ternaire. and a man named Hidclle had partly felled a honeysuckle, tree. They later were cutting another tree, when the honeysuckle fell,, killing Halliburton instantly. The body of John Thomiek. drowned three week's ago in the MnngakiihL River, was recovered yesterday two miles from the place where the fatality occurred.— Whangarei wire. An inquest was held on the body of Maud Bissell, nine years of age. who was killed through being run over by the wheel of a. cart at Matawhero (Poverty Bay district). The. coroner, in recording a verdict of •"Accidental death," pointed out the danger in the common practice of allowing children to jump into carts and waggons proceeding along roads. John Gate, an elderly man, died in the Gisborne Hospital as the result of injuries leceived through being knocked down by a railway truck at Rakauroa. While driving home from Methven on Saturday night Mr Daniel M'Kendry was thrown from his trap and broke his thigh. —Ashbnrton telegram. The infant daughter of Mr Spiers, an Ohaupo settler, approached a horse which was tethered, and was kicked on the head. An operation was performed at the Hamilton Hospital, but the condition of the child is critical.
