At the <:ity police station on Saturday evening Sergeant, Emerson was presented bv members of the Force, with a pair of silver-mounted hair brushes. Senior Sergeant Kin", in making the presentation, expressed the kindly feeling entertained bv members of the Force toward? Sergeant Emerson, and wished him and Mrs Emerson success and happiness at Ashburton, whither sergeant has been transferred on promotion. Sergeant Emerson, on returning to the South Dunedin police station, was waited on by a number, of residents of South Dunedin and St. Kilda. Mr J). H. Hastings presented Sergeant Emerson with a hunting crop for himself and a. lady's handbag and purse of sovereigns for'.Mrs Emerson, and expressed the regret felt at the departure of the sergeant. The Mayor of St. Kilda. the Revs. IT. H. Bedford". D. J. Murray, and R. Fairmaid. and Messrs S. Cairns (representing the licensees of hotels in the district) and Cuttle (a, member of the South Dunedin Licensing Committee) all paid a tribute to the. fine spirit _ displayed hv Sergeant Emerson in the discharge of his duties. The sergeant, in a, modest, speech, returned sincere thanks for the. kindness shown him. Sergeant O'C'onnell. who succeeds Sergeant Emerson at South Dunedin, received a cordial welcome to the district.

The Rev. R. S. Gray, of the Oxford Terrace Baptist Church.' Christ church, has accepted the invitation from the congregation of the Hanover Street Baptist Church. Mr Gray, however, will not come to Dunedin till* after the Chapman-Alexander missioners have concluded their work in Christehuivh next February. The committee of the Sawyers Bay League, of Service met Miss Cameron, one of their number, on Saturday evening, and presented her with a lady's companion. Miss Cameron is leaving next month on a visit to South America. Mr Forbes, in making the presentation, referred to her services in connection with the league, and trusted she would have a safe and pleasant journey. Other members expressed their hearty' appreciation and best wishes, and Miss' Cameron feelingly reputed, stating that she was glad she had been able to assist in the good work the league was carrying on. At. the warehouse of Messrs Briscoe and Co. on Saturday morning the manager (Mr J. Ringlandl, on behalf of the employees, presented a travelling bag to Mr Stanley Sparrow on the occasion of his leaving the firm to reside in Timaru. The. Kaiser is suffering from a cold, which prevented his attendance at the army manoeuvres in Saxony. The death is announced of Mrs W. ti. Fail, an old resident of Poit Chalmers. She had been an invalid for some time.

At the Police Station on Saturday night, Sergeant O'Coniiell, who has been transferred to South Dunedin, was presented with a, case of pipes, and Constable Skinner received a timepiece on the occasion of his approaching marriage. Senior-ser-geant King made the presentations. The 'Southland Times' announces the death of Mr F. W. Wade, the oldest member of the legal profession in Invcrcargill. Mr Wade was closely identiiied with the early history of Southland. He took an active part in everything relating to the interests of the town and district, and was keenly interested in sport in all its branches. He was in his 74th year.
