AGAINST STRIKES.

At a meeting on Tuesday the members of the Auckland and Suburban Industrial Union of Workers agreed upon a schedule of proposed conditions. This was submitted to the various local bodies concerned yesterday, with a. request for a j conference to deal with all disputes. It is proposed in the schedule that an advisory board should be appointed by the employers and employeas, to consist of an equal number of each, and to be presided over and called together when necessary by the Mayor of Auckland for the time being. There ie one particular clause in the proposals submitted which is noteworthy as being the first practical effort of an organised Labor body to definitely dissociate themselves from Syndicalism, and rely solely upon conciliatory methods for the'adjustment of any differences that may arise between the employers and employees. The clause referred to provides that, should any dispute arise which the Advisory Board cannot settle., the employees concerned shall not cease work, but shall remain in their employment under protest pending its settlement by the Conciliation Court or the Arbitration Court. Instead of the customary " preference to unionists" proviso, the schedule contains a clairee to the effect that the employers shall have the undisputed right of employing whomsoever they think fit, irrespective of whether they are members of the union or not, provided that all men so employed shall join the union within one calendar month. Uniform conditions are sought throughout the districts controlled bv the different local bodice.
