NATIONAL PROHIBITION AND LOCAL OPTION.
TO THE EDITOR. <y rj in the event of No-license being canned in Dunedin and National Prohibition throughout the Dominion tomoiTow, is the Local Option vote overridden by the National vote, thus giving Dunedin "four years more of license instead of six months? —I am, etc., Cianbanald. December 6. [ln the event of National Prohibition being carried, it would not supersede the effect of the Local Option poll. If the latter favors No-license, then all publichouses in the electorates must close after June 50, 1912,—Ed. E.S.] Under date October 27 the secretary of the Navy League advises the secretary of the Otago Branch: —“Six <L H. Hosting, K.C., hat! just been into the office to pay mo a visit. Ho is leaving England on Saturday for the Continent, returning- to New Zealand via Marseilles. I urns exceedingly glad to meet- him, but was unfortunately unable to do much for him, hia visit to England being so soon to terminate.” Our Cromwell correspondent writes:— Considerable drift is travelling in the liver, affecting the returns froip. the gorge dredges.— -On the dutha the returns from the Shine and Hiring Sun dredges keep comparatively poor. An improvement maybe expected shortly, as the wash in the latter claim is getting tighter.—-Quartz mining is in full swing on the Garrick. Both Messrs Des and Evans are easy crushing. I hear on good authority that the stone .in the latter’s claim is nch. The Bendigo doep-levol adit, which waa stopped temporarily, will resume work after the holidays—On the Nevis sluicing is carried on night and day. Water v plentiful, and the utmost use is being made of it for the Christmas wash ups.— • The elevating claim at the Laggate baa closed down, so the wash which promised so well, did not come t p to expectations.
