Donnelly, president of ; the Jockey Club, during an interval in the racing yesterday, called together the farthers on the racecourse, and afforded His Excellency the opportunity | he desired. j Lord Islington, in a brief address, I congratulated them on the happy and ' prosperous appearance of the country and people and on the high state of agriculture reached. The herds and flocks he had seen equalled any found in any part of the world. As time wont on they might expect keen competition in the disposal of their products, but increased scientific methods of farming would ensure success. lie advised them not to put all their eggs in one basket. The grower of fruit should also be a small farmer. He rejoiced to come to Hawke's Bay among the warm-hearted fanners and loyal citizens—loyal'to their country, to imperialism, and to their King.
