LADIES’ CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNEY
Ideal conditions prevailed for the second day oi the above at Heretaunga yesterday, the sun shining brightly, while there was an almost total absence of wind. Interest attached to the meeting of Miss A. Pearce and Miss C. Gorrie, the Anck-, land and Wellington champions. This was expected to furnish a vary warm struggle, but Miss Gorrie, playing much below her best form, was easily beaten, Miss Pea roe giving a fine exhibition of golf. Miss Gould (Otago) was in capital form, showing great superiority to Miss Butt. Mrs Orbed (North Otago) was seen to great advantage in her match with Miss E. Pierce (Auckland). Miss Collins is rapidly coming' into form after her voyage from England. The champion was very short of practice, and played badly. She was lucky not to be drawn against any, of the cracks, and may reach the finals.) The game between Miss Wood (Christchurch) and Mrs Bevan (Otaki) was one of the best battles of th© second round, the Southern player just getting in by 1 up. Results of the second round : Miss Godins boat Alice Hamlin, 3 up and 2 to play. Mrs Ronald Orbed beat bliss E. Pierce, 5 up and 4 to play. Airs Guy Williams beat Mrs Booth, 3 up and 2 to play. Mrs W. Bidwiil boat Mrs Buckley, 4 up and 5 to play. Miss Z. Brandon boat Airs Freeth, 5 tip and 4 to play. Miss Wray beat Aliss Gray, 4 up and 2 to play. Aliss Wood beat Mrs Bevan, 1 up. Alisa Campbell beat Miss V. Kettle, 5 up and 4 to play. Mrs Turnbull beat Alias Brewster, 1 up at the 19th hole.
Airs Collins beat Miss Ledger, 2 up. Miss Gould beat Miss Bull, 8 up and 7 to play. Aliss Dorothy Booth beat Miss R. Buckland, 6 up and 5 to play. Miss Standish beat Mies Simpson, 2 up and 1 to play. Miss G. Booth beat Miss AULean, 2 up and 1 to play. Miss W. Cotter beat Airs Abraham, 6 up and 5 to play.
At the annual meeting of delegates from clubs affiliated to the Ladies’ Golf Union (New Zealand Branch), a motion by Airs Kelly (Napier) that clubs affiliated to the union should not play matches against those not affiliated was negatived. —Airs Kelly proposed, and Aliss Williams (Otago) seconded, that no player must play for more than one club in interciub matches during any one season.—This was carried unanimously.—Uniform rules for bogey play were adopted.-—Th© next competition for the Coronation Aledal was uxed for the last Friday in April. 1912.—.Miss Rattray wes re-elected president of the union. Th© following” vice-presidents were re-elected :—-Mcsdames Bloomfield, Pearce, Kelly. Sharp. Vernon, Butterworth, Aliases’ Moore and Stevenson. Airs Mellsop was unanimously re-elected hop. secretary.—Next year’s championship meeting will be held at Nelson.
