IO THE EDITOR. Sir,—There'* is a‘sentence in Mr G. B. NichoUs’s contribution which has an antithesis. “It is enough to drive even a teetotaller to drink in order tfaat hia, thinking powers may' bo „ narcotised and cbinsted/’ A very dear friend* of mine Njnce wrote a booklet—an excellent one, U'jo—on - the evil of excess id drinking. When busy at'writing be always refreshed himself’-with a “ nip ”or two. It was necessary to aid his thinking. Of course, "narcotised” can be used in a double sense—help, ' restorative, etc. I have (kndwn many public speakers and writers j take narcotics ‘to help them, not “ blunt ” ' them. —-I am, etc., .
