MR SCHWABS DEFENCE. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright NEW YORK. August 5. Mr Charles Schwab, who was examined by tho Steel Trust Investigations Committee, in tho course of hie evidence, said that the Trust was his own creation, aided by Mr Pierpont Morgan and Mr Andrew Carnegie in the early years of the business. The Steel Company did not attempt to curtail the output or to fix prices. They simply aimed to develop the American steel industry. MR ROOSEVELT'S EVIDENCE. NEW YORK, August 6. (Received Auguct 7, at 8.5 a.m.) In the cours© of bin evidcr.ee Mr Roosevelt stated that aa Pre.-irient lie consented to allow the absorption of the Tennessee Coal and Iron tympany in 1907, as thereby hc had averted a national financial panic. No other course was open to hmi, and his action restored confidence.
