OFFICERS IN CAMP.

[Pee United Press Association.] VALMERSTON X., August 7. When it was planned to hold the first officers' training camps at Palmerston North for tho Wellington military district it was thought that probably 200 might come, but so thoroughly have the forces boen vivified under the new system, and so determined are the officers and non-commissioned officers to qualify themselves, that instead of 200 there will be 400 in camp this week, 381 being already under canvas. Yesterday afternoon the camp was pitched in two divisions on the showground. The officers' tents are in wellordered lines in the north-eastern portion of the ground, with the officers' mess under the grand stand, and tho. non-commissioned officers are camped in the cattle section. Particular attention is paid to the sanitary arrangements, etc., and tho whole camp is on tho best lines, by way of object lesson. There are in camp two colonels, two lieutenant-colonels, six majors, 21 captains, and 69 subalterns. There is to be a series of lectures every evening during the camp, each by a specialist. The camp is under the command of Colonel Chaytor, O.C. district. Major O'Brien, of the Medical Corps, is in charge of the health of the camp.
