QUEENSLAND SUGAR STRIKE. AN IMPORTANT CONFERENCE. SYDNEY, August 5. (Received August 5, at 30.5 a.m.) A conference of Waterside Workers', Federated Seamen'?, and Federated Carters and Drivers' Unions has been called at Brisbane for Wednesday next to discuss matters in connection with the sugar strike. The delegates from the other States have hurriedly left for the north. The conference is likely to have an important effect on the position, and fears are expressed in some quarters' that it-may l« the precursor of a. general strike of the transport workers.
