SOCIAL SERVICE.

A GENEROUS OFFER. ■At the meeting at the Presbytery this morning the Convenor of the Presbyterian Social Service Association (Rev. A. Cameron) submitted the annual report of the association. In moving the adoption of the report the Convener made appreciative reference to the work of Sister Mary and Mr and Mrs Axelsen. Further, ho mentioned with regard to the three proposed cottage homes, be had received the following anonymous intimation from a member, but not an officebearer, of the church:—“ You get the plans and proceed with the building of the three cottages for the children’s homes, and I will find the money for you for them.” The reading of this munificent offer was hailed with delight by members, and the singing of the Doxology followed. The report and balance-sheet (which were presented by Mr P. L. Clark) were adopted. The • following minutes were agreed to:—“ The Presbytery express gratitude to God for His goodness in connection with our work among the young through the Social Service Association ; thank all donors of money and produce and those who have given personal help in connection with this work; appoint the following as members of this committee: Revs. J. Chisholm, Graham Balfour, Messrs W. H. Adams, P. S. Bett, J. Blair, P. L. Clark, and T. Somerville; further acknowledge the goodness of God in sending us workers so wise and faithful as Sister Mary and Mr and Mrs Axelsen. and thank them anew for their diligence and faithfulness during the past year; the Presbytery, commend the work of the association to the prayers and generosity of our people.”
