AN EXODUS OF DRAPERY.
SALVAGE FIRE SALE. To-day is the fourth day of the salvage sale of the Canterbury Fanners’ Co-operative Association’s stock ot drapery, clothing, and furnishings at Penrose’s. ’l'he pressure of customers and congestion in the various departments aro as great as ever. This condition is most significant, for the interest could not be maintained unless the Ann’s claims were made good in every particular. That this is so is clearly shown by the return visits that so many people make to this extraordinary sale. By closing down yesterday Penrose’s staff were given an opportunity sorely needed of preparing for sale a large quantity of salvage stock not previously offered; in consequence to-day the store wore quite a new garb of bargains. Hundreds of new lots were brought forward and bought up with avidity. During this sale Penrose’s are clearing out about £SOO worth of haberdashery, much of it at one-qnarter of usual cost price. Details cannot be given because the items aro so numerous, hut the haberdashery counter has been crowded every moment of the day, and the outstanding feature of its cheapuess is being well advertised by every visitor to this department. We are selling a large quantity of Roslyn hosiery very cheap. The C.F.C.A. pinned its faith to the products of this mill. We found in marking off the stock that a large proportion of the hosiery was of the well-known Roslyn brand. No. 190 is a well-known Roslyn number of boys’ stockings. It is all wool, a heavy make, the most durable stocking extant. Wc have a full stock in all sizes from -1 to 9. These are sold everywhere at 2s 3d a pair; Penrose’s price is Is 6d, any size and in any quantity. All-wool blankets are absurdly cheap, calico and sheetings are in keen demand, boys’ clothing is being bought up quickly, men’s dungarees and working shirts are cut down very low in price, linoleums and carpets are leaving the store by express loads. From every avenue aii exodus of drapery is having Penrose’s.—[Advt.]
