MR HORACE BOTTOMLEY'S UNSUCCESSFUL APPEAL.

Mr Justice Vaughan Williams dissented, as ho thought that Master was a mere gambler. Air Justice Moulton sa-id that Bottomley hod induced Master to purchase worthless shares in the John Bull Investment Company. Air Justice Shaw and Mr Juotico Buckley agreed with Mr Justice Moulton. Mr Bottomley will now appeal to the House of Lords.

[Mr Horatio Bottomley, M.P., proprietor of ‘ John 801 l ’ and. founder of the ‘Financial Times,’ was sued in the Court, of Kings Bench far misrepresentation br the sale of shares. The plaintiff was Airs Eleanor Curtis, executrix under tbo will of her father, the late R. Master, wbo was n retired Civil servant. She sued Mr Bottoinloy for £57.835, which she alleged ho bad obtained from her father by selling him shares that were worthless. Evidence was given to the effect that Master met Bottomley through the latter writing a letter stating that he wished to help those who had lost money in previous BottomIcy companies. Master lost £90,000 in share dealings with K. T. Hooley and Bottomley, in connection with investments in the John Bull Investment and Trust Agency, Carter's Deep Leads, and other companies, practically all the. shares in which ■were now worthless. Hooley compromised an action brought, against him by Airs Curtis. Bottomley did not go into the witness box. A verdict was returned for the plaintiff for £50.000 damages, but a stay of execution was granted on condition that the full amount of the verdict was paid into court within a week.]
