CHAOS IN CRETE.
Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. CANE A, July 50. (Received July 31, at 5.25 a.m.) The treasury is empty, and the Government have announced their inability to pay the gendarmerie. There have been frequent meetings of armed men for the purpose of overthrowing the Government and the National Assembly. [Crete is under the high suzerainty of Turkey, but independent of its suzerain under" the High Commission appointed by the Powers.]
