ACCIDENTS AND DEATHS
Edward Barrett. 55 years of a.go. a farm hand, died suddenly at Kaitoke. near Wanganui. He was said to he suffering from tiie effects of a drinking bout. Unbelt Black. 24 yeais of age, met his death on Saturday in a singular manner. He, with another man, was out j.atieiing firewood on the rivor bed of the Kakantti. Deceased climbed a large rock overhan.giiig a deep pool in the river, and .-lipped oil' inlti the water. He grasped a long pole held out to him by his mate, but when near the bank let go. His. mat* went in and brought him out, but he was found to be dead ; it is supposed from shock and stoppage of the heart's action. .lames Ferguson, a miner at Hyde, with a wife and throe children, was admitted to the Hospital on Saturday suffering from injuries to the head and sntis, besides being lutdjy bruised. Ferguson received tho injuries some time on Friday by falling over a snow-covered facte about 16ft high and rolling down a bank. lie was reported to be making satisfactory progress today. Robert Henry Flowere. .married, with (wo eliildrtoi. a visitor from Blenheim, was June shooting on the Wnkapmika road while awaiting the coach, by which be intended lefurniug home to-day, when he slipped en the hill, ami the gun was discharged into his body.
