In reply to a question whether Mr Fiffier saw a “proof” of bis interview in the ‘Review of Reviews,’ Mr Stead states that Mr Fisher did not see any “proof.” SIR W. LAURIER’S POLICY. MR ASQUITH DECLINES TO SPEAKSOME PERTINENT QUERIES. "LONDON, July 28. (Received July 29, at 8.5 a.m.) In tho House of Commons Mr H. Pike Peas© (U.) asked Mr Asquith whether he had noted Sir W. Laurier’s declaration fW. Canada did not think she was bound to take part in every war undertaken by Great Britain, and that Canada’s fleet might not be called upon in all cases; and if so, did its converse also apply 1 Also, whether Mr Asquith would obtain from tho Canadian Government some definition of the wars in tho cases referred to, and whether wars originating under Article 2 of the Anglo-Japancso Alliance were included. Mr Asquith replied that the matters raised were too grave and delicate to be dealt with by way of question and answer. ‘ Nor can I,” added tho Prim© Minister, “without a breach of confidence disclose the discussions and decisions of the secret sessions of tho Imperial Conference.” Viscount Wohner questioned Mr MacKinnon Wood whether Article 5 of the Anglo-Japanes© Treaty permitted tho Japanese Government to inquire concerning tho availability of the Australian fleet in the event of war, whether such inquiry had been made, whether the Government intended to reply that the action to be taken by a Dominion in the event of war was not a subject of discussion, and whether such a reply would bo in accordance with tho full and free consultation stipulated in the Article. Mr MacKinnon Wood answered: “I cannot reply to a hypothetical question. The terms of the Treaty are now public.”
