ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.

The council of the Otago Acclimatisation Society met at their rooms last night, Mr G. W. MTntosh presiding. Concerning the Clinton hatchery, Mr Steven reported that 294,000 ova had been placed on the trays, making the total 1,592,000. Two cases (40,000) Loch Levon ova had been sent to Geelong, and 10.000 brook trout ova to Auckland. The first ova (taken on May 24) are now hatching out, this being particularly quick time for winter. Owing to frosts no brown trout ova will be ready for export within three weeks. The game is in healthy condition, and stoats and weasels have ceased giving trouble. Hard frost and dry weather, reported Mr Deans, have prevented ova being got from the Leith this month. The number of ova laid down at Opoho and Clinton hatcheries exceeds two and quarter millions. A case of 50,000 rainbow trout ova has been received in good condition from Botoma, obtained from Lake Tarawera, and these have been laid down at the Opoho hatchery. As soon as the brown trout ova are ready 320,000 are to be sent to Nelson and Melbourne.

The Angling Committee recommended the placing of trout fry in Flat Creek, near Bare wood, and other streams, and the removal of the St. Bat bans hut to a bend in the St. Bathans Creek.—Adopted. The Deer and Gam# Committee recommended that in the event of any particular dear-stalking block holding more than one rifle, the applicant for such block be informed that unless a further application be made by him for the remainder of the block it be allotted to any other applicant. The committee also recommended that, in view of the financial position of the society, Banger John’* services be

dispensed with in the meantime.—- ( Adopted. , . . 1 It was resolved to decline applications by guides for shooting blocks at Hawea, | The resignation of Mr Bntterworth as treasurer was accepted with regret, and ■Mr A. E. Jenkins was appointed to the i position. I Seven nominations to fill the vacancy on the council caused by tb© resignation of Mr A. E. Farquhar were received, but as the rules require seven dnys’ notice of nomination the filling of the vacancy stood over. A motion that the paradise ducks illegally shot at the opening of the duckshooting season should be taken out of the freezer and handed over to the president (Mr M’Tntosh) and the chairman of the Game Committee (Mr Brinsley) to dispose of was ruled out of order by the chairman, who said that the ducks' were the property of the Minister of Internal Affairs. ;
