' The Hank of New Zealand was incorporated on July 29, 1861_. The assassination of King Humbert of Italy occurred on July 29, 1900. The pay rolls of some of the great works on the Tyne reach nearly £40,000 weekly. The steamer Tasmania was wrecked on Mahia Peninsula on the 29th of July, 1897. Captain Cook sailed from England on Ids first voyage to the South Seas on July JO. 1768. The steamship Campania recently took ostrich feathers valued at £IOO,OOO from liomlon to New York. The law prohibiting the carrying on of the business of bookrnaking in Holland came into force on June 15. A lad at Northland (Wellington) picked up a telephone wire which had been displaced by the recent gale. He was discovered lying on the ground, apparently lifeless, but recovered under treatment. His flesh was burnt in places through contact with tho live wire. It is proposed in Wellington that a deputation representing the master printers and the various typographical unions shall Wait on the Minister of Education to urge that the free text books shall be printed in New Zealand instead of in England, as has been done hitherto.
