DEATH OP A PIONEEE. ; . ■» . [Per Pbess Association.] GORE, July 26. Mr James M'Cwbbin, aged 75, on« of the best-known of our pioneors, died at Mataura tliis morning-. Ho was born at Ayrshire in 1836. 110 was a baker by trade, emigrated to Victoria in 1851, and landed in New Zealand in 1864. Mr M'Gubbiu worked at his trade in D lined in for a number of years, bub when the gold rush on the West Coast broke out he proceeded there. Returning to ihmedm ho entered into business at Ca\ ersha/.n, where he remained for a number of years, and subsequently went to Milton. Later he was well known in business at Wyndham, and then took up business at Mataura.' He retired seven years ago, when his health gave way. He leaves a wife and a number of children.
