NEW ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIPS. The Dominion championship meeting opened at Invercargill last night. There were some good bouts. Following are tho results: —Bantam. — J. Leckie (Otago) beat " H. Mains (Otago). H. Witty (Otago) boat 0. Tancred (Wellington). J. Thompson (Christchurch) a bye. —Middle-weights.— A. Finnic (Otago) beat F. Holt (Auckland). CONFERENCE OF DELEGATES. The annual conference of delegates of associations affiliated to the New Zealand Boxing Council was held at Invercargill yesterday, Dr Crawford (Invercargill), president of the Boxing Council, in the chair. The following delegates were in attendance:—Messrs M. J'. O'Donnell and Goodwin (Timaru), T. G. Burke (Northern Boxing Association, Aucldand), Staples (Wellington), Jos. 'lsaacs (Otago), Stackpole (New Plymouth), W. Moir and T. E. Robson (Christchurch). and W. G. Atack (hon. secretary New Zealand Boxing Council). After consideration of remits and suggestions in the agenda paper the following decisions were arrived at: Advisability of determining a uniform system of points in judging at competitions.—To be left in abeyance until it was ascertained how a proposed system of local referees' associations worked. That with a view to affording sufficient protection, the conference recommend to the Boxing Council that the ring covering bo at least half an inch thick. That an official organ be printed, and that each association he circularised as to what proportion of the cost it is prepared to meet. That the encouragement of boxing in schools and country districts be hrought under the notice "of local associations, with a recommendation to devise means if possible. That the associations be emjwwered to form a local referees' association, and that the conference strongly recommend this step being given favorable consideration. That the judges and referee at championship meetings be nominated by local associations, and that the New Zealand Boxing Council shall have the power to finally select officials from a list of nominations supplied. That the secretary draft a set of articles for the use. of associations in making matches, in order that uniformity and finality shall be reached in dealing with competitors. That the question of .submitting a proposal for holding South Island and North Island championship meetings be

considered, and that the winners of the respective championships be selected to meet at the New Zealand championship meeting; or that each centre be only, allowed one competitor in each class. That' competitors be allowed to hit whoa breaking away by mutual consent. That all recommend at ions at any conference bo submitted to local associations for a vote by mail. Tliat the establishment of a New Zealand Sporting League be approved, and that Air R. W. M : Villy (Wellington) ho the council's representative at head- ' quarters. That the Boxing Council be asked to draft a rule to apply at the-New Zealand amateur championship meetings where there are. only three men in a class. (This rotates to a man drawing a bye and then claiming second prize when beaten by the winner. The opinion was expressed that in this case the man first 1 beaten should have a chance to compete with a bye man, also beaten, for second j prizes.) That the judges in bouts rmist write down and hand to an official announcer their judgments. Under this proce- ) dure the referee will not handle tho decisions of judges. That tho 1912 championships bo held at Wellington. That a deputation be appointed by the conference of 1912 to wait mi tho Prime Minister with regard to giving legal recognition to the New Zealand jjoxing Council. A proposal from the New Plymouth Association to alter the middle-weight limit from 11.4 to 11.6. so as to conform with the English rules, was lost. In regard to a remit from the Northern Association —" That the rule with respect to the ring be so altered as to permit of a stukeless ring "-—it was decided that the council and the associations had no juris- > diction. A proposal "That the referee j must examine gloves immediately prior to i the commencement of a contest" was i deemed to be unnecessary, it being pointed j out that outsiders were not allowed to , touch the gloves.
