PRINTING A BFITING CARD, [,?es United Phess Association.] CHRISTCHURCH. July 25. At the Magistrate's Court flu's morning, Alexander Wildey, punter, was charged under section 30 of the (Jambig Act with printing a document containing a. notification on behalf of home person as to betting on the Grand National Hurdle Race, Steeplechase, and New Zealand Cup. The document in ,'niestion was an ordinary betting card. Mr Cassidy, lor tlie defendant, raised the point th-'t the card contained no indication if it wen; issued on beh: ]f o, a particular perron, for it had no indication of any persons name, and was simply a compilation of racing information He quoted the judgment of the .Supreme Court in Harnett v. Bishop, to the effect that a document to be a violation of the Act must indicate that eome person was ready to make betfi on a horse race. _ This was absent in the cktcl under review. MiBishop, S.M., said the point was an important one, and if it were sound might necessitate an amendment of the law. Judgment was reserved. HOCKEY.
