IN'VI'.IU'AP.C.rLL. December 10. At the inquest yifilcrdaj afternoon touching the death of' l>r Joseph Green in tho Woodlands motor lalality. there wa.s considerable diversity of opinion in respect to the. respective speeds of tho train and tho molor ear at th« time of the collision. John Sinai 11, land valuer, deposed that, ho wis ..landing a short disUuce from tho crossing fit which the accident occurred. Dr Given was only fifteen yards off too crossing, and travelling about eight or Mini! miles an hour when he observed tho train. Ho jammed or; the brakes and swerved to the leu. in the direction of_ a corse iiedsie. but was bumped back to tho i-i"ht bv a slight embankment, and so shot into the train, which was tnvelling at the rate of ten miles an hour. T. H. Smith, driver of tho engine, said that tho train was travelling at twenty miles an hour at the time, her usual speed over the crossing. The previous witness was then recalled, and informed that, the engine-driver had said that the train was travelling at twenty miles an hour. 'Witness: 1 don't thii.k so, although lie should know better than me. The Coroner: You considered that the car and train were travelling at the same f.pced. I s it not possible, that the car ■was also going at twenty miles an hour? Witness :No : 1 don't think so. lam used to driving a gig at eight miles an hour, and Dr 'Given was not going much faster than that. lam perfectly satisfied in my own mind that the train was not going faster than ten miles an hour. Further evidence was given to the effect that Dr Green was a capable driver, and that his view of tho approaching train would have been impeded hv a house and hedge. The. train was a special from the Goro show. Tho inquest was adjourned pending tho evidence of Miss M'Lood, the other passenger, who is still unconscious.
