DUNEDIN FIRE BRIGADE
ANNUAL COMPETITIONS. Tho annual competition among members of the Dunodin Fire Brigade for trophies presented by Superintendent Mitchell, Messrs A. Lees and Co., Smith and Smith, Mr W. 1.. Bolam, Mr J. B. Salmon, and Fireman A. Wateon wero held at the central station on Saturday. There wore two events—coupling and manual. Results : Coupling.—Firemen Porter and MoTton. 41 4-ssec, 1; Firemen R. Duncan and Foster, 42sec (including 3sec penalty), 2. Manual.—Motonnan Porter, .scratch, 54 4-ssec (including lsec penalty), 1; Fireman Menzies, Ssec handicap, 34sec, 2; Fireman C. Duncan, ssec handicap, 35sec, 3. Mr J. IT. Walker presented tho prizes. Crs Bui-nett and H. H. S. White expressed pleasure at what they had seen, and trusted that the best team would bo allowed to represent the brigade at Hokitika in March next. Tho United Firo Brigades' Association's gold medal for twenty-fivo years' service was presented to Deputy-euperintendent J. Salmon by Superintendent Mitchell, who complimented the recipient on his good work, and expressed the hopo that when the time came for him (the speaker) to retire the deputy would bo appointed his successor.
