LONDON, November 1
In the course of an interview with the ‘Daily Express,’ Sir George Reid said ce had observed tho reckless disregard of infant mortality in the kixge cities of the world. He would say to the people of England : “ Save your babies; they are Imperial babies.” The tide of emigration was insufficient, and the leakage tluough America should be stemmed. The colonies wanted all. The average Englishman hopelessly misunderstood Australian finance, and was unable to comprehend Australia’s National Debt. The average Englishman did not realise lhat the Governments of the Australian States were landlords expending money in developing the country. If they sold their railways to-morrow they could by that single operation wipe out their National Debt.
