WESTPORT, November 2.
A new hospital is to be opened at Denniston to-morrow The Charleston Hospital has been closed. The sum of £l6B has been raised by public subscriptions for the widow and family of James Finnerty, recently killed at a saw-mill.
James bymonds, an old railway employee, was shovelling coal at the bins when a passing truck caught the handle of his shovel, throwing him down between two moving trucks. His back was broken. ELTHAM, November 2,
The first fire for three years occurred at two o’clock this morning, destroying the rear portion of the tea rooms of a boarding-house occupied by Mrs Wishaw. The building was insured for £SOO and the furniture for £l5O. ASHBURTON, November 2. The Governor and staff arrived this afternoon, and proceeded to Longbcach, where His Excellency will bo the guest of Mr John Grigg. To-morrow the Vice-regal party will visit the annual agricultural and pastoral show. MASTERTON, November 2. The Wairarapa Hospital and Charitable Aid Board unanimously resolved to accept the offer of Mr W. C. Buchanan, M.P., to erect a home for incurables at Greytown, and a committee was appointed to confer with him and Dr Valintine.
