CITY POLICE COURT. (Before H. Y. Widdowson. Esq., S.M.I Drunkenness. —George Burrows pleaded guilty to this offence, and was fined lUs, or in default forty-eight horns, with hand ; a lxxr. A male first offender was fined se, with the usual alternative. # Obstructing a Constable.—Charles John Penson was charged that on October 22, at Dunedin, he did wilfully obstruct- Constable Finch while in the execution of his duty; and, further, that on th© same day he did incite Robert Kirk, a prisoner in custody to obstruct Constable lunch while executing his duty .-Mr Bedford appeared for tho accused, who pleaded guilty to both charges.—Sub-inspector Phair said that on the ni'dit of October 22 Constable Finch was called to Hope street to arrest a man named Robert Kirk, who was drunk, and who had been causing two dogs to light and worry each other. Penson interfered with tho constable, and incited Kirk to resist arrest. Kirk resisted violently, and had to be thrown and handcuffed. Penson had made a second attempt to rescue lurk from custody. Accused had been dlinking, but was not drunk at th© time.—Mr Bedford said that there had been a dog fight, and Penson got excited. —His Woisbip said tho fact that tho obstruction and inciting another to obstruct were all one offence, ho could not convict accused on both charges.—On the charge of obstruction ho was convicted and fined £3, with costs, or in default one months’ imprisonment. Penson was further charged that on October 27 he did enter the Provincial Hotel during tho currency of a prohibition order. He pleaded guilty. It was explained that he had gone into the hotel to look for Kirk, but had not asked for liquor.—Fined £2, or in default fourteen days’ imprisonment. By-law Cases.—Duncan Trainer (for whom Mr Scurr appeared) was fined Is on a charge that he did feed liis horse in High street otherwise than with food contained in a nosebag. See Wah, for failing to drive a vehicle as near as practicable to tho left-hand side of Rattray street, was fined 5s and costs. John Morrison, on a charge that he failed to ride his bicycle as near as practicable to tho left-hand side of Rattray street, was also fined sfi and costs. Percy William Wales, the owner of a horse found at largo in St. KUda, was fined 6s. James Rackiey, who was rimiiirly charged, was fined 6s. William Mead, who had one horse at large in St. Kiida on October 25, was fined Ss and costs. James M’Donald, similarly charged, was similarly dealt with. Breaches of Piohibition Order.—James Jackson was charged with procuring liquor on October 28, and also with entering the Crown Hdtel wliilst prohibited. He pleaded guilty.—His Worship, after hearing evidence, said he thought that these charges should not be double-barrelled. It was quite sufficient to lay the major charge.—Sub-inspector Phair explained that the order was made out against Jackson on August 19 last.—Jackson w;is fined 4Cs, with costs, or in default fourteen days’ I imprisonment. A fortnight in which to . pay was allowed.
