CHEAP FRUIT.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —Our attention has been called to a communication on the above in Saturday’s ‘Evening Star,’ from the pen of Mr A. Mofitzson, and we trust that in justice you will allow us space to refute some of this fruit philanthropist’s statements. Tho writer’s intention is apparent: to disparage tho high price which our firm obtained for fruit last week, tho price being recognised as the highest ever obtained for Sydney fruit, in Dunedin. In tho fiist place, ho covertly insinuates that this record price was only obtained for ono case. Ihis is incorrect; and as to tho gins being equal to two ordinary cases, as lie states, this is another misstatement, it being recognised that a gin is equal to ono case aud a half only. Wo considered, in justice to tho fruiterers, that the public should have some idea of the extreme wholesale rates at present ruling for imported fruits.—Wo aro, etc., GnivFiTHS, Fraser, and Co., Ltd. November 1.
