Mr John Bums, as President of the Loral Government Board, has just set, an example that New Zealand should follow without delay. He has appointed three women inspectors in the person of Mrs Andrews (formerly on the staff of St. Bartholmcw's Hospital, and who holds the hospital certificate and gold medal), Miss Lea (an inspector under Queen Victoria's Jubilee Institute), and Miss Todd (who holds certificates front Ht. Bartholmow's Among the duties assigned to them are the inspection of maternity wards, wards, nurseries, infirmaries, and the nursing arrangements of all poor law institutions, the inspection of schools to which pauper children are sent, and the inspection of the work of committees who are entrusted with the boarding out of the State's wards-i.e., indigent and pauper children.
