The ‘ Daily Mail’s ’ Ottawa correspondent reports that it has been practically settled that the vessels constituting the nucleus of a Canadian navy shall be constructed in Canada, where the Government have come to the conclusion that vessels equal to the British standard can be constructed. While, the cost will be a little more, the other benefits that will follow justify this policy. FARMERS’ FEARS. WANT CANALS, NOT BATTLESHIPS. OTTAWA, November 26. (Received November 27, at 9.10 a.in.) The Dominion Grange, a large Canadian Fanners’ Association, adopted a resolution viewing the Government's naval proposals with grave misgivings, fearing that they may provoke war, and recommending a plebiscite. They further recommend the Government to devote the proposed naval expenditure to deepening the Welland canal.
