JARRAH SLEEPERS.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —f attended Cr Walker's Howe street meeting. He said : “ The mayor instructed that sleepers of all qualities be purchased at 2s lid after the Council had agreed to buy one particular class only at 2s 6d.” He made no mention of the mayor instructing the chairman of the Tramways Committee to act, nor did he mention that Cr Cole, as chairman of that Committee, agreed to purchase the whole quantity at 2s lid with certain stipulations. With your permission, I would ask the chairman (Mr George Fleury) if Cr Walker made any other attempt but to have the meeting to understand that the mayor was the only party to blame. On Cr Walker’s explanation and Cr Cole’s statement to-night it is patent to all that the mayor is blameless.—l am, etc., Y. April 19.
