Clark. -U.P., presented Dr Hislop with-a travelling rug. and in doing so referred in complimentary 'terms-" to" the keen interest be hdd taken in bowling matters and the valuable assistance he had given to the club. Then. a s captain of the local volunteer Mr Clark handed the doctor a useI'ul travelling bag, and took the opportunity of thanking him' for the assistance and encouragement he had given to volunteeriug in his capacity as surgeon captain. In thanking the. people of. Painierston for - their many kindnesses-and for their tokens of-esteem, Dr Hislop stated that he valued highly the friendship and good-will of his fellow-citizens, and he had made it his aim and chief pleasure to make and retain as many fuends sis possible. During his absence lie intended to devote part of the time to study, and he hoped-the knowledge thus gained would be of benefit to the pccple m the district. The weather wasexoeptjona ly favorable, the competition in all the classes keen, aria! the arrangements well in hand,- therefore this year'*--trials must be pronounced a complete success.
