Clark. -U.P., presented Dr Hislop with-a travelling rug. and in doing so referred in complimentary 'terms-" to" the keen interest be hdd taken in bowling matters and the valuable assistance he had given to the club. Then. a s captain of the local volunteer Mr Clark handed the doctor a useI'ul travelling bag, and took the opportunity of thanking him' for the assistance and encouragement he had given to volunteeriug in his capacity as surgeon captain. Still another mark of the high estimation i" which the doctor is held by the citizens v-;» shown when Mr Guffie, superintendent of the local-ambulance brigades, presented him with a set of gold sleeve links. In thanking the. people of. Painierston for - their many kindnesses-and for their tokens of-esteem, Dr Hislop stated that he valued highly the friendship and good-will of his fellow-citizens, and he had made it his aim and chief pleasure to make and retain as many fuends sis possible. During his absence lie intended to devote part of the time to study, and he hoped-the knowledge thus gained would be of benefit to the pccple m the district. At the Town Hall on Thursday a. portion of the Mount Royal Estate was offered for inn'm land ' vhich contained about ■' 10,000 acres, was put up m ten lots. There "-' : was a large attendance- of buyers, but few ", of the -allotments were sold, the opinion > being expressed by those best qualified to " judge that the reserve prices were too hi"h Lot 5 was secured by Mr Scoullar, of Dunedin, at. £4 10s per acre. This was the only lot disposed of at the sale, all the • other sections being passed in. But after r ScouUar secured an additional £OOO acres, and Mr George Brooke cf Kurow, purchased lot 9, containing 2,122 acres whi e lot 10, ofMjKB acres, was'purchased by Mr Trolove, of Christchurch. ±ne annual dog trials, under the auspices of the Waihemo Collie Club, took .place in a paddock near Dunback on Tuesday and Wednesday. The weather wasexoeptjona ly favorable, the competition in all the classes keen, aria! the arrangements well in hand,- therefore this year'*--trials must be pronounced a complete success.
