PRESIDENT FALLIERES
ATTACKED BY A FANATIC. NO HARM DONE. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. PARIS, December 26. A fanatical Monarchist restaurant waiter named Mathis, seeking notoriety, watched for several days for President Fallieres. The latter was strolling on the Champs Elysee yesterday, when Mathis turned round and seized the President's throat and tried to pull his beard. Both fell struggling, Mathis's finger-nails drawing blood behind the President's ear. Mathis was immediately arrested, and the President continued his stroll. Foreign diplomatists hastened to the Ehrsee to express their indignation at the outrage. Mathis was in possession of a medallion belonging to General Mercier, who was responsible for Dreyfus's arrest.
