ACCIDENTS AND DEATHS.
W. 11. M'Phail (oil off a mail cart at Wellington, and was * dragged some distance. Me succumbed to his injuries. William August, while out shooting near Wellington, was shot in the face through his companion's gun going off accidentally. His condition is serious. Percy Blackbie and Thomas Wakefield were drowned in Pelorus Sound on Christmas Day through falling overboard from a launch. Their bodies nave not been recovered. A Gisborne wire states that James M. Michael, aged seventy-four, who was subject to heart disease, died while playing draughts at RakauToa on' Christmas Night. From Gisborne also comes information that Daniel O'Hara (employed on the railway construction works) was drowned at Waikohu on Christmas Eve. A JOCKEY'S END. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. PERTH, December 28. (Received December 28, at 9.15 a.m.) A jockey named M'Dougall was unseated and fatally injured while riding at Saturday's races. It was discovered that he was wearing an electric battery capable of conveying an electric shock to his mount through the spurs.
