In reply to the speech of Baron Koniura (Minister of Foreign Affairs) when bidding farewell to the American Fleet, Admiral Sperry declared that no two countries had ever clasped hands across the sea so warmly. Both might rest content that intelligent sympathy had drawn ancient ties still closer. The popular send-off to the fleet was enthusiastic.
