POLITICAL MEETINGS TO-NIGHT, The following meetings in connection with the coming election will be held tonight, at eight o’clock, except where : specially mentioned : , Mr E. Q. Allen .(Chalmers), at Waitati Hall. . \ Mr A. R. Barclay (North, Dunedin), .North-east Valley and Maori Hill Committees. Mr J. T. Johnson (Taieri), at Hyde School, ; Mr T. Mackenzie (Taieri), at Green Island Hall. Mr- ,W. Barr (Chalmers), ■ at Bavensbourno. ' ; Mr T. K. Sidey (Dunedin South) meets his St. Hilda supporters at Town Mall. Mr J. W. Munro (Dunedin West) will meet his Roslyn Committee and supporters at the committee rooms, old Fire Brigade Station. Hon. J. A. Millar (Dunedin West) will meet his Committee and supporters at Robin’s Buildings, Octagon, at 7.45. THE PRIME MINISTER AND HIS CONSTITUENTS. Sir Joseph Ward, speaking at the Bluff on Saturday night, referred’to defence matters, old age pensions, Asiatics exclusion, and poposed legislation to aid local bodies. He intimated that his presence would ha neCemary at Wellington on polling day, so that he would not be in the electorate. A hearty, vote of confidence was unanimously adeped with enthusiasm. THE NATIVE MINISTER AT POHUI. NAPIER, October 26. . The Hon. J. Carroll fired the first shot in his campaign at Pohui on Saturday night. He declared that every effort had been made by the present Administration equitably to advance, the interests, of all sections, of the community. The ship of State had to be fairly balanced in the adi’ustment of the valuables she carried. To ie lop-sided or too much weighted in any particular was dangerous. Mr Carroll said he felt that the stage had 'now been reached when a little legislative rest was desirable. The coming period should be devoted more to the administration of those laws which had been passed in response to the wishes of the people. A vote of thanks and confidence was unanimously carried.
