MINING.

A dividend (the 29th) of 2s per share is payable to shareholders in the Muddy Creek Gold Dredging Company to-day. On account of ill-health the secretary of the Molyneux Kohinoor Gold Dredging Company (in liquidation), Mr H. Shrimpton, has so far been unable to issue the balance-sheet of the winding-up of the company. There is a ,likelihood, says the ‘ Lake County Press,' 1 of reefing being a more prominent class of mining in Otago district in the near future. Of recent years it has been either dredging or sluicing. The old Bendigo mine is being opened up and there is a prospect of a company being formed to work *it. At Macetown there is a general revival in quartz reefing, and Skippers district offers the best possible facilities for the prospects, as the locality, like Macetown, is abounding in reefs. All that is required is capital to develop them. The All Nations shoot of stone is still being driven on, and the ‘ Lake County Press : understands that prospects continue to be highly satisfactory. If rumor is correct, the reef is the best struck in Macetown since the early days. Besides showing signs of permanency, the body of stone is very large. Good progress is being made in the Garibaldi and Homeward Bound claims. The fire in Block 14 at Broken Hill is now out, an dwork has been resumed. River height this morning, 6ft Sin; weather cold. The following cable has been despatched from Karangahake to the London office of the Talisman Company : At No. 11 level, south progress, 34ft, and at No. 12 level, 46ft. Our own correspondent from Cromwell wires that the weather is cold, and that the river is falling fast. The Golden Bed dredge-master, in reporting his returns, adds that the dredge has stopped for repairs. The New Trafalgar Company’s return was obtained from the creek section. The master of the South Waikaia dredge, reporting for the week ended October 27, says that, as will be seen by the return, he is on the improve, and has every hope that such will continue for some time. I think, he says, that this gold will run down the river alongside the Switzers claim. He intended going out into the river, taking half the stream, and rroing up stream. The run was a bit shallow since washing up, and the wash was much heavier. If this continues, he expects a better wash-up next week. He is now 33yds from the river. Width of face, 86yds; depth of ground, 19ft; red clay bottom. RETURNS. Mystery Flat: 58oz 15dwt, 137 hours. Riley’s Revival: 570z 13dwt, 136 hours. Electric No. 1: 13oz 14dwt, 137 hours.
